Writing Class Agenda April 24, 2007

I have created a new folder in each of your network folders called US History Essays.  Inside that folder is one file called USHG-107.  This is the January Regents that we had trouble downloading yesterday.   The first thing I want you to do today is find it and open it up and find the THEMATIC ESSAY QUESTION on page 10.    It is a good idea for you to get very familiar with the layout of the test.  Although the page numbers will be different in June, the basic layout is the same.  First comes the 50 multiple choice questions (lots of good info there for use in the essays), then the Thematic Essay, and finally the DBQ (also a good place to look for extra info).

Once you have found the Thematic Essay stop and wait for me to go over the first part about THEME and DEFINITIONS.

Answers to the essay questions are to be written in the separate essay booklet.

In developing your answer to Part II, be sure to keep these general definitions in mind:

(a) describe means “to illustrate something in words or tell about it”

(b) discuss means “to make observations about something using facts, reasoning, and

argument; to present in some detail”

Planning: Please open up the Thinking Maps or Inspiration software and set up a basic tree map like the one below:
