Writing the Thematic Essay

Below you will find the Mexican War part of the tree map I have been using.  Then you will find an expanded version to which I have added details and made sure that I have written in complete sentences.  Finally, you will find a paragraph on the Mexican American war.  The comments in parentheses are to explain what is happening in each location and each sentence.

Here is the filled out tree map on the Mexican War (it is also in your network folder):

Here is the paragraph on the Mexican American War.  Notice that I just took the sentences from the tree map and put them together:

The Mexican - American War was fought between 1846 and 1848 because both countries had interest in the land that existed between them, especially the area that is today the state of Texas.  One reason the US entered into a state of war with Mexico in 1846 was that both countries had territorial ambitions in the wild areas seperating the two countries.  Mexico and the United States exist in geographical proximity with each other. They are both located on the same continent.  There were large areas of land that both countries considered unpopulated.   The United States annexed the territory of Texas in 1845. The border between the US and Mexico became diputed and hostilities began.   The war with Mexico enabled the United States to lay claim to large areas of what is now the American Southwest. It also eliminated a potential hurdle to American manifest destiny.
