Siddartha’s son was used to riches and servants when he left with his mother. He was not used to the person that his father was and could not instantly love him. He was angry at the world for taking the life of his mother and angry at his father for not being there. He could not get used to leaving a soft bed and servants who did everything he wished for this poor lifestyle. Yet siddartha was patient and tried to win him over with love and patience.
Siddhartha’s problem with his son is that his son is a spoilt brat. His son is used to wealth and privilege, ordering around servants, the city life. Siddhartha Jr. hated living in a shack by a river with two old hermits. Siddhartha’s problem with his son is that he loved him to much to punish him and his son knew it and hated him for it. And then his son ran away and left a big wound in Sid’s heart that stayed open for a long time.
