GREEK MYTHOLOGY
Homework for Friday: Please make a list of all the people/gods/characters who are important to the story of the Trojan War. Use a tree map to categorize them.
At this point you should know the following myths:
- Mesopotamian – Gilgamesh, Babylonian Creation, Marduk
- Egyptian – Egyptian Creation, The Death of Osiris, Mummification Origins, Pharaohs as God-Kings
- Greek – Greek Creation, Cronos and the Titans, Zeus and the Olympians, Prometheus, Pandora, Oedipus, Icarus and Daedalus
You should also be able to discuss the following themes:
- Creation of the universe
- The usurping of fathers by sons
- Fate versus free will
- Tragedy
- The imperfection of the gods
Throughout all of this we have also been working on note taking. Sometimes I have taken the class notes and sometimes you guys have done it as a class. We will begin this marking period with some note taking as individuals. Remember that notes should be:
- A summary – only the important stuff
- Complete – don’t miss any important stuff
- Understandable - or else what’s the point?
