Overview: English in the Twelfth Grade is centered on the following literature:
- Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway
- The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
- Anthem by Ayn Rand
- Siddhartha by Herman Hesse
- Inherit the Wind by Robert E. Lee
- Ishmael by Daniel Quinn
- Killer Angels by Mike Shaara
Expectations: Students will be expected to complete homework and other assignments on time and conduct themselves in a manner which allows the class to function efficiently and maximizes their own engagement.
Grade 11/12 Homework Policy: Homework is due at the beginning of the class period. Late homework will not be accepted for credit.
Kurzweil – In an effort to boost student reading independence, the use of Kurzweil 3000 educational software will be formally taught and required in 12th Grade ELA classes this year. The software has a wide array of tools to support reading comprehension.
Grading: Final grades for each marking period are based on the following ratio:
- Homework/Classwork – 40%
- Final Papers/Projects – 30%
- Participation – 30%
Participation grade will be based on student preparedness, engagement in class activities and attendance. This includes checking this website on a regular basis.
